Eric’s
Story
On July 8, 2007, while enjoying a day at the lake with Jacqui, their daughter, Jenna, and
neighborhood friends, and family, 36 year-old Eric
Knutson suffered a tragic, life altering spinal
cord injury and fracture of the C-4 vertebrae in
his neck. The spinal cord injury resulted in
paralysis in both of his arms, torso and both
legs. No movement, no sensation. Eric was immediately air-lifted to Froedert
Medical Hospital in Milwaukee, WI where he
received state of the art care for his injury. The
weeks following involved a surgery to stabilize
the fracture and fuse together the vertebrae. Eric
was also on a ventilator and struggled with
pneumonia and infections. Through faith, prayers, positive thoughts
and excellent medical care, Eric has made enormous
strides. With intensive
in-home therapy, Eric continues to
recover and has regained limited use of his arms...but they are getting stronger
and more functional every day. Small but steady
improvements in Eric's core strengths are reasons
for hope that Eric will walk again
someday.
